The STAR Center is a member of the Alliance for Technology Access which is a national network of community based resource centers providing people with disabilities access to assistive technology. The non-profit, non-residential facility provides an interactive learning environment where parents, children, adults and professional in education, rehabilitation, and health services, can explore the many uses of computer and assistive technology for persons with disabilities. Because of the diversity of clients served, the music therapy internship offers opportunity to develop clinical skills within a wide array of ages and populations. Nashville, Tennessee
TriStar Centennial Parthenon Pavilion (TCPP) is a 132 bed inpatient behavioral health facility providing acute care and crisis stabilization for adult and geriatric patients. The primary clinical diagnoses treated at TCPP are mood disorders, thought disorders, post-traumatic stress and trauma, chemical dependency, and dementing illnesses. Patients are treated using a dynamic psycho-educational model with interventions provided in a treatment mall setting. Embracing trauma-informed care, patients are served based on the belief that mental illness is treatable in a supportive, therapeutic environment. St. Jude is the largest childhood cancer research center in the United States in terms of the number of patients enrolled and successfully treated. The hospital has 78 beds for patients requiring hospitalization during treatment. St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital has an emphasis on primarily outpatient care, allowing kids more time to be kids. Their mission is to “advance cures and means of prevention for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment.” The music therapy internship is designed to provide exposure to inpatient and outpatient care in oncology and hematology.
